Baseball betting lines explained easy
There are two important betting lines to consider for any punter looking to bet on baseball.
Money line
Money line bets are simple `win´ or `lose´ bets on games, where the favorite team is displayed with a (-) and an underdog or the team less likely to win is displayed with a (+). For example, in a game between Philadelphia and Chicago, Philadelphia start as the underdogs, and their odds may be displayed as (+145), while Chicago, the favorites to win the game may start at (-130).
This means that in order for a punter backing Chicago to ₹100, they must wager ₹130. If Chicago does end up winning, they will get back ₹100 plus the initial stake of ₹130. For those backing Philadelphia, for every ₹100 they bet, they can win ₹145, getting back ₹245 with the addition of the initial stake.
Run line
The Run Line in baseball is similar to the point spread used in basketball, or handicap betting used in football. In the above-mentioned example, the Run Line may be set at 1 1/2, with Philadelphia starting at (+1 ½) at odds of (+165), and Chicago at (-1 ½) at odds of (+135).
This means that if Philadelphia loses by one run, the punters who bet on the Run Line would still win the bet. Similarly, Chicago would need to win by at least 2 runs for the bets backing Chicago on the Run Line to be settled as winners.
