How do you take money out of an ATM?

How do you take money out of an ATM?

To use an ATM to withdraw money, you will need an ATM card from a bank. Nowadays, you can use your ATM cards to withdraw money from any ATM machine, even if it does not belong to your bank. Albeit, you may be charged a small transaction fee for that.

Let’s take a step by step look at how to withdraw money from an ATM.

  • Insert your ATM card in the dedicated slot. Some machines may take your card inside, and you will receive it at the end of your transaction, or in some cases, you just need to swipe it.
  • Once the machine recognizes your card, you will be asked to select a language for further steps. The languages may include English, Hindi, and a vernacular language.
  • After selecting the language, you will be prompted to enter your 4 digit PIN. It is very important that you remember your PIN, as it will not be possible to withdraw money without that. Also, do not share your PIN with anyone, or do not write it anywhere, to prevent misuse.
  • After entering the correct PIN, you will be asked about the transaction that you wish to carry out as, in addition to withdrawal, ATMs can also carry out deposits and transfers. Select cash withdrawal.
  • You will now be asked to select the type of account which you hold, either a savings account or a current account.
  • Now enter the amount that you wish to withdraw. Most ATMs allow withdrawal in multiples of 50s or 100s. Also, be careful to not enter an amount that will exhaust your minimum required balance. Press Enter.
  • Collect your cash from the dispensing slot. Do make sure to count your cash before you leave, as there might be a slim chance that a banknote may get stuck in the slot.
  • You will be asked if you want to print a receipt. Select yes if you need to keep a record of your withdrawal.
  • Close the transaction and you are done! Be sure to collect your ATM card before you leave.
